In 2010, the promising career of Mohammad Amir was ruined by a rigging controversy. Amir, along with colleagues Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, was convicted of participating in a fixing scandal. They bowled intentional no-balls during a Test match against England. The world was stunned by the episode, and it had grave consequences.
As a result of his role in the incident, Amir was jailed in the UK and banned from cricket for five years in November 2011. Because of his sentence, he was unable to play cricket, and his future as a player was clouded.
It was not easy for Amir to win back the respect and faith of his fellow cricketers, even if he was young and had room for atonement. His 2016 comeback to international cricket was a watershed moment that demonstrated his will to fix his career and move on from his failures.
