Trent Boult is inevitable in the powerplay. The left-arm New Zealand pacer started IPL 2024 on a sensational note for himself by taking two wickets in his first two overs against Lucknow Super Giants. The second of which, of Devdutt Padikkal, came through a sensational delivery that knocked over the left-hander’s middle-stump out of the ground.
LSG and RR got their IPL 2024 campaign underway on Sunday afternoon at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. RR posted a formidable total of 193 runs on the board with skipper Sanju Samson leading the way with a terrific innings of 82 runs.
RR got off to a strong start with the ball as well via Trent Boult snapping Quinton de Kock and Padikkal. While de Kock’s was a tad lucky wicket as the South African flicked a pad on his pads straight to finger leg, Padikkal’s dismissal was classic Boult.
It was a length delivery on the stumps that nipped back in a little. On the previous ball, Boult had hit Padikkal on his helmet with a bouncer that broke the strap of the helmet. Perhaps that short ball was still in Padikkal’s mind as he couldn’t move his feet at all and the ball snuck between a bat-pad gap to rattle into the stumps, flattening the middle-stump.
