WPL 2023 is done and dusted. Mumbai Indians’ women created history at the Cricket Club of India’s (CC) Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai as they were crowned the inaugural champions of the tournament after beating Delhi Capitals (DC) in the summit clash.
Mumbai Indians Won WPL 2023
Natalie Sciver-Brunt stole the show with a stunning knock of 60 runs off 55 balls, smashing 7 fours. Her knock played a crucial role in Mumbai’s win over Delhi.
Mumbai Indians restricted Delhi Capitals (DC) to 79-9 with Hayley Matthews and Issy Wong taking three wickets each. However, Shikha Pandey and Radha Yadav tried to bring the momentum back as they put up a stellar 52-run partnership for the 11th wicket and helped DC put up a respectable total of 131 runs on the scoreboard.
In reply, Mumbai made the worst start to their innings as they lost their openers early in the innings, putting DC back in the game. However, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver kept their calm and put up a solid 72-run partnership before the captain was dismissed after a run-out.
After Harmanpreet’s dismissal, Sciver’s quick boundaries and Amelia Kerr’s cameo of 14 runs helped MI claim the title in 19.3 overs.
Following the match, a grand presentation ceremony took place and the top performers of WPL 2023 were awarded prestigious titles at the ceremony.
