The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced its Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the 2022-23 season on Sunday. The big gainer in it is all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has moved up to Grade A+ contract, which will fetch him INR 7 crore, from Grade A contract last year.
Ravindra Jadeja joins captain Rohit Sharma, former skipper Virat Kohli, and spearhead pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the Grade A+ category of BCCI’s annual player retainership 2022-23.
Two other all-rounders – Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya – have been promoted to Grade A, the INR 5 crore category, from B and C respectively. Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav have moved up to Grade B from Grade C.
Opener KL Rahul, however, has been dropped from Grade A to Grade B and will earn INR 3 crore as his annual retainership.
Shardul Thakur has dropped from Grade B to C, while Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, and KS Bharat are all newly contracted players in Grade C, fetching INR 1 crore per annual period for this contract.
Two senior Test players – Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma – both of whom were dropped from the Test team last year – who were previously in Grade B, have not been given contracts this time, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha have all been dropped from the list.
Seamer Deepak Chahar, who has missed most of the matches for India in the past 12 months due to injury, has also not been handed any contract.
How much money do Indian players get from BCCI?
A Grade A+ contract is worth INR 7 crore, Grade A is INR 5 crore, Grade B is INR 3 crore, and Grade C is INR 1 crore.
