While the ODI World Cup 2023 ended only a month and a half ago, fans and experts have started discussing the T20 World Cup 2024.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in the West Indies and the USA in June. This will be the first ICC World Cup event hosted by the West Indies since the 2010 T20 World Cup and the first opportunity for the USA.
Former India greats and 2007 T20 World Cup winners Yuvraj Singh and Gautam Gambhir made their picks of dark horses and favorites for the T20 World Cup 2024 for a commercial for Thums Up.
Yuvraj Singh surprisingly ditched India, Australia, England, New Zealand, and Pakistan, to pick South Africa as his favorites for next year’s T20 World Cup.
Even though the Proteas have failed to reach the semi-finals of the last two T20 World Cups – they lost to the Netherlands last year in the group round to end their dreams – Yuvraj Singh was very impressed with South Africa’s performances in the World Cup 2023. Yuvraj also admitted that Pakistan, who will now be captained by Shaheen Afridi, are also “very dangerous”.
“I have a different opinion here. I want them to and I think South Africa will win. They have not won a white-ball tournament and the way I saw their progress in the 50-over World Cup. Then obviously there is Pakistan, who is very dangerous,” Yuvraj said.
Gautam Gambhir wishes Team India end their ICC title drought in T20 World Cup 2024
Gautam Gambhir, who was India’s top-scorer against Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup final, opined that Pakistan’s fielding was the poorest in the recent ODI World Cup.
Gambhir spoke about the difference between Team India and Pakistan: even though both haven’t won an ICC title in last few years, India have reached more semis and finals than Pakistan.
Gautam Gambhir said: “See, Pakistan their fielding is, I saw it in the last 50 over World Cup, probably the worst in international cricket. So they will have to literally pull their socks up if they really want to compete in the T20 World Cup. The amount of finals that India have reached, I don’t think Pakistan has reached anywhere close to the amount of finals India has played in the last five or six years. But then you are just one step away from winning the trophy. Hopefully, the T20 World Cup could be one.”
