India vs West Indies 2016: WICB announce 12-member squad for Test series

West Indies Cricket Board announced the 12-man squad for the homes Test series against India. In an interesting move, West Indies’ fast bowler Kemar Roach was left out of the squad by the national selectors. West Indies have announced a very young squad with a couple of uncapped players to take on India. Uncapped batting all-rounder Roston Chase was included even as Leon Johnson earned a recall. Chase has an impressive record in first class cricket. He averages 42.87 from 29 first-class matches, and can be a useful option with the ball too.

India have a good bowling attack considering the condition in West Indies and it will be an uphill task for West Indies’ young batting unit. It would be fair to say the the batting lineup might be heavily reliant on the experienced middle-order duo of Marlon Samuels and Darren Bravo. Talking about the bowling unit, Shannon Gabriel and Carlos Brathwaite along with skipper skipper Jason Holder will take responsibility of the seam bowling department while leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo will do the bulk of bowling as the lead spinner in the side.

Jerome Taylor retires from Tests

In a press release, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) stated that Jerome Taylor had informed them of his immediate retirement from Test cricket. Though he will contine to be available in the shorter formats, his absence in whites could depreciate an already struggling pace attack.

West Indies Squad for the 4-match Test series against India: Jason Holder (c), Kraigg Brathwaite (vc), Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Bravo, Rajendra Chandrika, Roston Chase, Shane Dorwich (wk), Shannon Gabriel, Leon Johnson, Marlon Samuels.
