When Alzarri Joseph ran in to bowl the last ball of Mumbai Indians’ innings, the air was weighted with anticipation. And more so with the feeling that Suryakumar Yadav deserved his maiden IPL century. Not just for today’s knock, for to stamp his legacy further as an IPL and T20 great.
The shot with which he brought up his century – bent low, picked up a missed yorker, smashed that full ball over deep square leg – encapsulated the kind of reputation of Mr 360 degree or India’s AB de Villiers that Suryakumar Yadav has earned. In his simply insane batting, he showed today amidst wickets falling at the other end.
In the previous match, Suryakumar Yadav had beaten his IPL best of 82 to score 83 runs against RCB. Today, once again, the Wankhede crowd got to watch a spectacle from his special batsman as he beat his high score again and this time went on to register a triple-figure score – his first in the IPL after he’d hit three T20I centuries already.
Suryakumar Yadav smashed 103* runs in 49 balls with the help of 6 jaw-dropping sixes and 11 startling fours.

A strike rate of 210. His knock elevated MI’s total to 218, in a game which if they win, would bring them to the third position in the points table and one step closer to the playoffs.
