In what seems an exciting prospect for not just the Mumbai Indians fans, but also Indian cricket fans, is that there is a high chance for Arjun Tendulkar, the son of Sachin Tendulkar, to make his League debut for Mumbai based franchise this year, in the Premier League 2023.
A combination of a few factors – some even unfortunate for Paltan – are likely to lead to Arjun finally getting his debut League cap this season.
Mumbai based franchise will kick off their IPL 2023 campaign on April 2 against RCB in Bangalore, where Arjun might make his Premier League debut. Even before the start of the season, MI have been hit with two major injury blows: fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Jhye Richardson have been ruled out of the tournament.
While Bumrah was a certain starter – and would have made the dream pair with the now-fit Jofra Archer – Richardson, too, was likely to start in the XI following a terrific BBL with Perth Scorchers.
Even though MI have the option of Jason Behrendorff to partner Archer, MI might be tilted toward having an Indian pace-bowling option and include an extra overseas batter in either Dewald Brevis or Tristan Stubbs along with Archer, Cameron Green, and Tim David as their fourth overseas player.
There is a good chance that Mumbai Indians can hand Arjun Tendulkar his IPL debut in their first match itself in Indian Premier League 2023
The 23-year-old Tendulkar is a left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder. He had been on the MI bench for the last two seasons and the franchise has tracked his performances in the nets and in the latest domestic season.
Arjun Tendulkar hit a century on his Ranji debut for Goa
He’s tall, can swing the ball, can hit the deck hard, can bat and bat well.
Having had a full season with Goa – after shifting from Mumbai because of lack of opportunities – Arjun is ready to make his IPL debut.
Of course, all the eyeballs will be on him if, and when, he plays his debut Premier League game; apart from being a pace-bowling all-rounders, which is a rare and much-treasured commodity in Indian cricket, him being the son of The God gets the mention always whenever anyone talks of him; his cricketing abilities coming second in line of the conversation.
He has a decent record in domestic cricket: 12 wickets in 7 first-class matches; 8 wickets in 7 List-A matches; 10 wickets in 7 SMAT 2023 T20 matches.
MI have in the past given plenty of unknown talented cricketers opportunities; now, in Arjun, they have a known player who’s done well in domestic cricket and has been on their bench for two seasons.
It feels now, in the IPL 2023, is the right time for Arjun Tendulkar to make his much-awaited IPL debut.
