Shubman Gill

Young Indian opener Shubman Gill, who has been knocking on the door of the Test team with his red-hot form lately, was finally given a chance to play in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The young batter replaced star opener KL Rahul, who was dropped because of his poor performances.

Shubman Gill has scored 736 runs in 13 Tests with one century and four half-centuries. Recently, he scored a double century in ODI and became one of the few Indian players to have a ton in all formats. His first century in the longest format of the game came against Bangladesh but he was unable to retain his spot in the playing XI after Rohit Sharma’s return to action.

However, Gill was included in KL Rahul’s place in the playing XI of the ongoing third Test match against Australia.

He started off well and looked comfortable from the start of his innings as he scored a boundary off his 2nd ball but he failed to make it big. He played a few attacking shots before he was dismissed for 21 runs off just 18 balls.

His quickfire cameo was brought to end by left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann. Gill was dismissed soon after skipper Rohit Sharma got out. Kuhnemann bowled a brilliant delivery which took Gill’s outside edge and went straight into the hands of Steve Smith.

Steve Smith, who was struggling in slips in previous games, took a comfortable catch to complete the dismissal of Shubman.
